Citroen shows off a
stunner
CITROEN has lifted the wraps on the third model in its stylish DS line at the Shanghai Motor Show.
The DS5 premium family-size hatchback is the first Citroen model to feature HYbrid4 diesel technology for better performance and greener environmental credentials.
It delivers 200bhp of punch, four-wheel drive, zero emission electric power for city driving and an acceleration boost function for the open road - with total CO emissions of only 99g/km.
Hot on the heels of the DS3 supermini and hatchback DS4, the new model is based on the futuristic C-SportLounge concept and is expected to hit the streets around this time next year.
The DS5 boasts flowing lines, a sleek profile and muscular wheel arches which wrap around the 16-19 inch alloy wheels, while the front end has an oversized air intake, large chrome-finished grille housing the Citroen chevrons and new LED lights.
And a distinguishing feature is the chrome-finished ‘sabre' inserts stretching from the top of each headlamp to the windscreen. The rear design is emphasised by two tail pipes built into the rear bumper.
Inside, the cockpit features a coupe-like driving position with a near-vertical steering wheel and a wide central console while an array of buttons, switches, scroll wheels and toggles are grouped on two central consoles.
A push on the Start button sees the colour head-up display project info into the driver's line of sight and the ambient lighting bathes the cockpit in a mix of red and white.
Though the car has a compact body, Citroen says boot space will be more in keeping with a Sportwagon.
