THE original Vauxhall Antara was a little disappointing but it has now been completely redesigned to address those shortcomings.
Fresh looks are backed up by new super efficient engines and powertrains and theĀ four-wheel-drive is now completely automatic.
The all-diesel line-up now comprises two 2.2-litre engines with either 163 or 184bhp and Vauxhall says they both improve performance over the previous units, with better fuel consumption and lower emissions.
There are also new gearboxes - six-speed manual and automatic - specially developed for the car.
The new intelligent all-wheel drive system combines the advantages of front-wheel drive - such as low fuel consumption - with all-wheel drive.
Power goes to the front wheels most of the time, but if they begin to lose traction, the rear axle is brought into play as well.
There's a refreshed interior with better quality trim and upholstery, a re-designed centre console, and a leather trim option, and the excellent space is the same as before.
