ENTER the summer months and out come all the coupe cabriolet drivers for their wind-in-the-hair driving experience.

But with our weather being so unpredictable, there is nothing worse than being caught in an unexpected shower and having to fiddle with zips, levers and manual devices to raise the roof again.

Thankfully in the Renault Megane CC, the technology to raise and lower the roof in seconds, is at your fingertips.

And, unlike many other coupe cabriolets, the Megane CC has a real beefy appearance with a larger-than-life rear end, neat alloys, a see-through roof and eye-catching lines.

The quality of technology is also very apparent once you take your seat behind the sporty steering wheel.

All dials, read-outs, controls and buttons are ideally positioned for ease of use and there is an almost simplistic feel to the instrument layout which makes it very clear and quick to process.

Top notch features include a great audio system with CD player and MP3 plus Bluetooth connectivity, dual zone climate control, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, an excellent sat nav system, cruise control and plenty more.

The front seat occupants have ample leg room, but rear seat passengers are a little limited for space - although this is the norm in most coupe cabriolets.

My other slight criticism would be the lack of storage options. The boot is partially sealed off at times to accommodate the roof when lowered and elsewhere, the glove box was rather small too.

But that aside, the Megane CC is quite a car. The road-holding is very impressive as is the acceleration through the six-speed manual transmission.

The 1.9-litre diesel-powered engine certainly delivers plenty of oomph and the all-round visibility makes the Megane CC a real pleasure to drive.

Renault has packed the Megane CC with quality safety features, including anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, numerous airbags, electronic stability control and a brilliant alarm system to keep away any uninvited attention.
