Skoda crossover is

WHILE I find the Skoda Roomster's styling rather contrived, the larger Yeti crossover is far better proportioned.

And sensibly, it's available with both front and four wheel drive, giving a model for all needs.

I recently spent a few days with the 2.0-litre 170bhp TDI diesel at the top of the range and could find absolutely nothing to fault.

The engine - as used in so many other VW group cars - gives huge urge away from rest and even more in the gears.

It does rumble a little at some speeds, but is never intrusive enough to be annoying.

The ride is excellent overall surfaces and my test car came with the extra security of four wheel drive, which I gather makes this one of the best towcars on the market.

On road, it handles safely and can be hustled through corners without any dramatics even if there is a fair amount of roll.

There's loads of room inside for four or five, making it an excellent family holdall just like a larger hatchback or estate.
