ALL three models of the Citroen C5 have the most marvellous ride that's not only the best in class but better than most executive cars two brackets above.
In fact this big Citroen's amazing fluidity over the worst of surfaces is an absolute revelation and shows just how comfortable a car can be.
However, its excellence doesn't stop there. It also hugs the road through corners like a sports car, with very little roll and tremendous grip.
The steering is a little lifeless but that is my only possible suspension or handling criticism - overall, it is simply superb.
The Mk II model made between 2004 and 2008 was available with 1.8, 2.0 and 3.0-litre petrol engines, but the diesels are the ones to go for - 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2-litre HDi.
All offer reasonable or good performance and the 2.0-litre is capable of 47mpg with low emissions, helped by a standard six-speed gearbox.
The dash layout is great, with everything in view and reach and if the boot's not big enough there's an estate with enough space for a small pony.
