Punto pops up with

revised range

Fiat Punto GBT

FIAT'S revamped Punto supermini will cost from £9,990 when it goes on sale this week.

That tab is for the Pop 1.2 8-valve model while at the top end of the 2012 range, the high spec Lounge 1.3 MultiJet version costs £15,600 but features the likes of auto dual zone climate control, leather steering wheel, front fog lamps, seven airbags, cruise control, ambient interior lighting and electric sunroof.

Available initially with a choice of six low emission engines - and with a TwinAir version coming in April - all cars are fitted with Start&Stop as standard.

Fiat is also presenting the revised Punto in a more simplified line-up of three main levels, similar to the Fiat 500 and forthcoming new Panda, so there's base level Pop, mid-grade Easy and high spec Lounge.

And added to these is a sports version based on the Easy level grade called GBT, which highlights the sports association between Fiat UK and British Cycling.

The big news for new Punto is the addition of two new engines - an 85bhp version of the MultiJet diesel engine and the Engine of the Year 85bhp TwinAir.

So the full list comprises 1.2 8-valve petrol (69bhp), 1.4 8-valve petrol (77bhp), 1.4 16-valve MultiAir petrol (105 and 135bhp), TwinAir 0.9-litre petrol (85bhp) and 1.3 16-valve MultiJet diesel (75 and 85bhp).

The evolution of the Punto range includes styling changes like colour coded front and rear bumpers plus a trio of new exterior colours - Brit Pop Blue, Tango Red and Underground Grey. Inside, there are new sportier seat fabrics and refreshed dashboard inserts,

Standard equipment in the entry-level Pop model includes remote central locking, electric front windows, driver and passenger airbags, window airbags, radio/CD/MP3 player, electric power steering and height-adjustable driver's seat.

Easy trim level adds the likes of leather steering wheel, 15-inch alloys and air-con; GBT level gets sport suspension, rear spoiler and side skirts, while Lounge adds climate control, front fog lamps, cruise control, ambient interior lighting and electric sunroof.

MultiJet diesel models start at £11,900 for the Punto Pop 1.3 75bhp three-door version, GBT start at £11,800 for the 1.4 8v 77bhp three-door, TwinAir petrol cars are from £12,100 for 0.9-litre 85bhp three-door and MultiAir petrol are from £13,900 for the 1.4 16v Lounge 105bhp three-door.
