IF you want a car that helps you go through life unnoticed, that offers an okay and functional driving performance along with pipe and slippers-style comfort then the A-Class 250 AMG is definitely not for you.
That's because this sporty number oozes character, delivers blistering dynamic handling and with AMG technology is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
This car looks amazing with its striking studded grille, AMG body styling, polished chrome twin tailpipes, LED tail lights, 18-inch alloys, panoramic sliding roof, privacy glass and intelligent lighting system with Bi-xenon headlamps, adaptive high-beam assist, cornering light function and plenty more besides.
And if the initial looks don't grab your attention, it's impossible not to be wowed once you take your seat inside this car with only the very finest materials incorporated into one of the most striking interiors I've ever seen.
There is a real sense of sophisticated elegance combined with sporting prowess about the layout and Mercedes has made a very clever use of colours and materials.
The AMG Exclusive package which costs an extra £1,080 introduces a black roof lining, heated leather seats with four-way lumbar support, Lava Black leather upholstery with red perforations, a matching leather upper dash with contrast red stitching and special mats.
And when you add in the smart circular air vents with black surrounds and red inserts, the flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and carbon fibre looking trim it's difficult not to spend some time simply admiring the build quality and craftsmanship involved in producing such an incredible driving environment.
Of course, the car is packed to bursting with creature comforts including a fantastic multi-media sound system, sat-nav, luxury automatic climate control and lots more.
But this car is not just about appearances, it has all the makings of a great all-round driving experience too with its 2.0-litre petrol-powered engine and seven-speed automatic transmission.
As soon as you take your seat and adjust the bright red seatbelts you just know it's going to be a little bit special and this A-Class certainly doesn't disappoint.
The engine purrs into life and with the slightest pressure to the throttle that purr grows in volume. Engage first gear and it's immediately evident that the power will keep on coming.
In and around town the car weaves its way through the traffic, but out on the open road, it bursts into life. Gear changes are swift and can be controlled via steering wheel-mounted paddles if desired, and the road-holding is incredibly good. Visibility is okay but not brilliant through the rear-view window.
Admittedly, this car is not the quietest with quite a lot of engine sound, but that along with the occasional bump really adds to its all-round appeal.
Storage is good with the boot offering 341 litres of space which can be increased to 1,157 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
And as one would expect, Mercedes has packed a comprehensive range of safety features into the car including electronic stability programme with anti-lock brakes and brake assist, collision prevention assist, blind-spot assist, lane departure warning system and a great security alarm and immobiliser to keep away any unwanted attention.
All in all, the A 250 AMG is not going to be for everyone, but it's an amazing car for anyone who likes a little excitement in their lives.
