A car Citroen describes as its new Technospace will have the biggest boot on the compact MPV scene as well as emissions of just 98g/km when it hits the streets in late summer.

The new C4 Picasso model, which is appreciably lighter than the previous generation version, will also come complete with the likes of a loft-style cabin, hi-tech headlights and extending relax seats.

And Citroen says there will also be a full touch driving interface, 12-inch HD panoramic screen, 360 vision cameras, park assist, active cruise control and an ultrasonic blind spot monitoring system.

First images of the newcomer have just been released and show off the brand's new look chevrons and slim daytime-running lights flanking the radiator grille, while the rear LED lights are inspired by Citroen's concept cars.

Inside, there's a panoramic windscreen and large glass roof to bathe the cabin in light and those opting for an exclusive Lounge Pack can enjoy front massage seats, a Relax seat that lets the front passenger stretch out their legs and neck supporting headrests for all seats.

The dash area fades from black on the driver's side to a lighter shade on the passenger side with a sparkle effect and satin-finish chrome and gloss black inserts.

Shorter than before but with a 55mm longer wheelbase, the C4 Picasso's boot space is increased by 40-litres to 537-litres - claimed to be the best in its area of the market - and expands up to 630-litres with the rear seats pushed forward.

The front passenger seat also folds forwards to increase load space while extending the view for those in the back, who also benefit from three individual seats that can be folded flat or tilted.

Citroen aims to cut CO2 emissions by an average of 30 per cent as well as improving fuel consumption courtesy of the car's lighter weight and more efficient engines.

Of the three diesels so far confirmed, the e-HDi 90 Airdream unit, mated to the new six-speed clutchless gearbox, emits just 98g/km with fuel economy of 74mpg - a record in the class.

There will also be the e-HDi 115 engine emitting 105g/km and capable of returning 70mpg with manual transmission and a new BlueHDi 150 unit with 110g/km and featuring something called a selective catalytic reduction module, currently the most efficient technology for treating emissions.

Stop & Start technology comes with all the diesels bar the HDi 90 manual.

Techno treats include a standard seven-inch pad to control stuff like air-con, sat-nav and sounds while a 12-inch screen displays driving info, and from next year drivers will also have access to Citroen Multicity Connect for info like the nearest fuel station or restaurant, weather updates and traffic reports.
