Maserati Ghibli

THE first Maserati production car in history to be powered by a diesel engine will make its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month.

And the Italian brand has revealed the first official images of the upcoming four-door sports executive saloon ahead of the unveiling.

Named the Ghibli, the car boasts a sportier styling than the larger Quattroporte, launched at the beginning of this year, and will be available with a pair of turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engines.

It also has an eight-speed automatic transmission plus rear-wheel drive and the new Q4 all-wheel drive system.

The Ghibli is Maserati's first saloon in its area of the market and reflects the company's belief that more premium executive car buyers are looking to make a statement through a distinctive and luxurious model.

As part of its expansion plans Maserati aims to sell 50,000 cars a year and Ghibli is expected to play a significant role.
