BMW has created an exclusive, special edition of the current fifth-generation M5 model - boasting performance that sets it apart from its stablemates.

Called the M5 30 Jahre Edition, the newcomer celebrates 30 years of the founder member of the high-performance business saloon area of the new car market.

Under the bonnet of the Jahre Edition is a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology.

Developing a whopping 600bhp it is not only the most powerful BMW M5 ever to emerge from series production under the auspices of BMW M GmbH, but also the most powerful production car in the history of the brand.

It can scorch from zero to 62mph in a lightning fast 3.9 seconds yet still returns a combined fuel consumption figure of 28.5mpg.

With some 40bhp more than the standard model, the power boost has been achieved through tweaks to the engine management and an increase in charge pressure.

The foundation for these upgrades was provided by the Competition package - itself a car that already came with a power upgrade.

It can be ordered as an option for the regular model and is part of the special edition's standard specification and comprises a revised chassis set-up with firmer springs and damper tuning along with a 10mm drop in ride height.

The special edition also comes with a more dynamic styling including Frozen Dark Silver metallic paint, ‘30 Jahre M5' badge on the front wing while the door handle inserts, twin exhaust tailpipes and 20-inch bi-colour M light-alloy wheels are in black chrome.

Exclusive interior touches include ‘30 Jahre M5' lettering, logos and a plaque plus M Sport multifunction seats upholstered in Black Alcantara and full Merino leather.

There's also a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system as standard with a 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen Advanced audio system available as an option.

Only 30 cars will come to the UK from a limited run of just 300 vehicles worldwide and the cost is £91,890.
