It's even bigger, more practical and just as much fun as the VW Golf it's based on.
I've just tried the 1.2TSi petrol turbo Rapid it's one of the best small family cars you can buy, with pace, space, comfort, economy and safety.
The marvellously smooth and powerful little engine pulls quietly and smoothly from low revs, but if you floor the accelerator, you get real verve and tremendous performance.
This is matched by excellent handling, with the superb VW power steering system that gives more roadfeel than any other on the market, and tremendous grip and road holding.
Believe me, it can be a pussycat to take grandma to the shops or fun on a stick for a quick drive across country.
And almost unbelievably, the ride is also excellent, both at speed and in town.
It's a five door hatch that looks like a saloon, and that means a huge boot and big rear legroom.
