VAUXHALL is cranking up the power of its trendy small car the ADAM with a fiery new range topper.

Called the ADAM S, the flagship model features a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine producing 150PS of punch.

It also gets a specially-tuned chassis and a VXR braking system as well as a slick suit of clothes.

The high performance engine has been specially developed for the model and delivers 50 per cent more power and 70 per cent more torque than its naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre stablemate.

Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, it fires the ADAM S from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 124mph. Fuel consumption is a Combined 44.1mpg and CO2 emissions are 149g/km.

The car's lip spoiler, sill mouldings and an extended rear bumper make the bodywork appear more muscular then a standard ADAM and 10 choices and four further roof combinations are available, including the Red 'n' Roll roof design reserved exclusively for ADAM S customers.

Inside, the driver and front passenger can choose between four different seat arrangements, three of which are exclusively available for this ADAM variant, including Recaro Performance seats in Morrocana or nappa leather.

And there's an optional leather package including black and red steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake in leather or red and white lighting for the instrument panels and doors.

Standard kit includes stuff LED daytime running and rear tail lights, electronic climate control and an IntelliLink system that's fully compatible with smartphones.

It provides USB and Bluetooth connectivity, audio streaming, seven speakers and a 7-inch high-definition colour touchscreen.

Prices have yet to be announced but the order book opens next January.
