BENTLEY will lift the wraps on a new, more sporty, Flying Spur V8 S model at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

Developing a hefty 521bhp from its 4.0-litre twin turbocharged engine, the newcomer will sit between the Flying Spur V8 and family flagship W12 in the model line-up.

What luxury lovers can expect is a car tuned for power and performance, with increased engine output and revised suspension to ensure a more precise driving experience.

And the V8 S features sports styling cues like a black radiator grille and rear diffuser plus a unique grille insert.

Tuned for power, the engine develops an additional 20bhp compared to the standard V8's 500bhp and allows the Bentley to blast from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 190mph.

Bentley says something called variable displacement, in which four of the eight cylinders shut down when cruising, reduces fuel consumption without any loss of refinement.

When more power is required, the engine automatically switches back to the full eight cylinders. Upshot is a Combined fuel figure of 25.9mpg - or the ability to cover 520 miles on a tank of fuel -and CO2 emissions of 254g/km.

Power is delivered to the road via an all-wheel-drive system with a 40:60 rear-biased torque split for a more engaging drive in all road conditions.

Inside, there are piano black wood veneers and a three-spoke sports steering wheel as standard, plus a knurled gear lever and shift paddles while a colour split unique to the V8 S features two-tone seats.

There's also a touchscreen deployed from the rear centre console which allows control of the car's climate and info systems from the comfort of the back seats, and an optional Multimedia Specification brings an extensive rear seat entertainment set-up.

Prices have yet to be released but will likely be more than the £142,800 tab for a regular Flying Spur V8 variant.
