THE Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an iconic 4x4 which has been around since 1979 and the latest version is due to be launched in Germany in June.

It will appear in the UK later in the year with a starting price of £95,100.

The latest version of the G-Class will come with a host of new features such as LED headlamps, driving assistance systems, a high-quality interior with leather seats, and new suspension and for more demanding customers, options such as the exclusive interior plus with leather on the interior door panels provides even more exclusivity.

Its external appearance has not changed significantly since the original and design elements continue to serve very specific purposes giveng give the GâClass its unique appearance.

Mercedes says such features are retained in the new model - the distinctive door handle and the characteristic closing sound, the robust exterior protective strip, the exposed spare wheel on the rear door and the prominent indicator lights.

Mercedes claims the new G-Class performs even better off-road, while on the road it is significantly more agile, dynamic and comfortable than its predecessor.

The new G-Class retains a standard ladder-type frame, three 100-per cent differential locks and low range off-road gearing.

There is also more leg, shoulder and headroom in the new G-Class which benefit not only the driver and front passenger but also the passengers in the second row.

As far as driving dynamics go the new off-roader comes with four programmes "Comfort", "Sport", "Eco" and "Individual".

The G-Class is fitted with systems which can detect the condition of the road and set the appropriate damping characteristics, so that the damping on rough terrain is stiffer, for example. In contrast, in Sport mode the G-Class has a more agile response when driving on the road.

Engine power for the UK market has not yet been finalised but the German model is fitted with a high-performance 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine with an output of 422bhp.
