A HIGH performance version of the Mercedes GLE coupe-styled SUV has been announced with supercar-like characteristics in a family-sized model.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe is due on sale in the spring and comes with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to bolster the output of its 4.0-litre V8 engine.
Prices and full specification are still to be announced but already Mercedes-AMG has revealed the car will be available in the UK only in S 4MATIC+ specification with 612hp on tap.
As such it can complete the 0 to 60 sprint in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 175mph. Official fuel return is 25mpg with emissions of 263g/km.
It becomes the new range topper for the GLE line up and is likely to cost in excess of £100,000.
With air spring suspension, active ride control and some AMG tweaks to the nine-speed automatic transmission, Mercedes-AMG says the new GLE will come with additional body styling including a newly designed rear apron with AMG-specific details such as a striking diffuser and an AMG exhaust system as well as a seven-mode drivetrain for all conditions from off-road in the wilds to race track performance.
