A PLUG-IN hybrid version of the Renault Megane hatchback will be on the road in September as the French car maker introduces an E-Tech model priced from £29,495.

The car joins the Sports Tourer estate model as Renault continues to expand its offering of electrified vehicles.

With a zero emission range of up to 30 miles on a full charge the Megane E-Tech Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to two electric motors producing a total output of 160hp.

Emissions are rated at 28g/km with the car having a theoretical fuel economy of up to 235.4mpg. Maximum speed is 109mph with a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 9.4 seconds.

The hybrid will be offered in two trim levels - Iconic and R.S Line - with the latter priced from £31,495.

R.S. Line specification includes an R.S leather steering wheel, gear lever gaiter with red-top stitching and R.S Line dashboard and trim, while the front seats are Sport items with built-in headrests. The seats are also covered in R.S. Line Black fabric upholstery with red stitching.

As with other models in Renault's E-Tech line up the Megane is fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

A full recharge can be done in three hours and the car is fitted with lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and fully automated headlamps as standard.

Renault's Easy Link touchscreen infotainment system is also available which on R.S Line versions comes with a 9.3-inch screen instead of the standard seven-inch display.

Boot capacity on the hatch ranges from 308 to 1,202 litres with 16 litres of additional underfloor storage available.
