IMAGES of the first purely battery powered Jeep have been revealed by parent group Stellantis under its plans to reach carbon net zero emissions by 2038.

The new Jeep is scheduled for release early next year and it is likely to sit below the Renegade in the brand's line up of SUVs.

Stellantis chief executive Carlos Tavares said as he launched the company's Dare Forward 2030 strategy that it was committed to becoming a leader in the fight against climate change.

He said: "Dare Forward 2030 inspires us to become so much more than we've ever been. We are expanding our vision, breaking the limits andembracing a new mindset, one that seeks to transform all facets of mobility for the betterment of our families, communities and the societies in which we operate."

Under the strategy Stellantis - which also produces Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat models - will be totally battery electric in Europe by 2030.

Tavares revealed that the company has 75 BEVs in the pipeline and intends to reach global annual battery electric vehicle sales of five million by 2030.
