PEUGEOT has launched its new 308 and 308 SW estate variant in the UK with prices starting at £25,270 for the hatchback and £26,470 for the estate.

The cars are the latest models to feature the French car maker's new design language and the brand's next-generation i-Cockpit interior.

They are also the first models to feature the brand's new logo, a roaring lion's head which also houses the radar sensors used by the autonomous driving aids.

Both models look to build on Peugeot's status in the medium car market and are available from launch with efficient plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time, while fully electric variants will follow in 2023.

Inside, all models feature Peugeot's next-generation i-Cockpit configuration with a new compact multi-function steering wheel and a 10-inch HD capacitive colour touchscreen that houses a new i-Connect infotainment system which is available from Allure trim.

Also new for the 308 and 308 SW are the customisable i-Toggles controls that allow owners to set personalised shortcut keys for numerous functions.

Both cars can be specified with heated front seats with 10-way electric adjustment and a multi-point massage system.

Standard safety and driver assistance technologies, include active safety brake with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assist, cruise control and speed limiter and driver attention warning while options include adaptive cruise control with stop function, full matrix led headlights, rear cross traffic alert and a 360-degree surround view parking camera.

From launch, both the new 308 and 308 SW are available with a choice of two plug-in hybrid powertrains in HYBRID 180 or HYBRID 225 variants.

Both feature PEUGEOT's 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and are powered by a 12.4kWh battery connected to an 81kW electric motor.

Capable of up to 37 miles from a single charge, the HYBRID 180 is also eligible for a low eight per cent benefit-in-kind rate.

A full charge using a 7.4kWh Wall Box charger will take just 3 hrs 50 mins, while the optional 7.4kW charger reduces this to 1 hr 55 mins.

Peugeot's 1.2-litre PureTech petrol and 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel engines are also available, both with 130 bhp.

Julie David, managing director of Peugeot UK, said: "The compact family car class remains one of the most important and competitive segments and is one where Peugeot excels. The new 308 and 308 SW offer buyers the possibility to choose the powertrain that best meets their needs, and represents another step in our commitment to offer an electrified variant across our entire model line-up by 2025."
