THE luxurious Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 has been revealed at the Shanghai auto show.

A rival to the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the all-electric SUV is the first car in the Mercedes-Benz family to feature sustainably processed leather in its upholstery and trim.

Based on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV it adds Maybach luxury including features such as two-tone paintwork, a standard MBUX Hyperscreen with clever animations of all three of its displays and in the rear two 11.6-inch screens in the backrests of the front seats.

Standard equipment includes a MBUX rear tablet, which can also be used outside the vehicle, and the MBUX Interior Assist which with the help of cameras, can recognise the operating requests of the passengers from body and hand movements and carry out the corresponding functions - for example switching on the reading lights.

Powered by two electric motors developing a total of 658ps, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 is all-wheel-drive and has a top speed of 132mph and accelerates from standstill to 62mph in 4.4 seconds.

Recharging takes around half-an-hour from a fast charger and some 130 miles can be added to the range in just 15 minutes.

Overall, the luxury SUV has a claimed range of around 375 miles.

Gorden Wagener, chief design officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said: "The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is our first all-electric, full-size luxury SUV. At Mercedes-Maybach we strive to add the shine of the extraordinary to the beautiful.

"The interior is an emotional and stylish statement. The lounge character promises luxurious travel at the highest level. Together with the innovative, progressive SUV proportions, we are completely redefining the SUV luxury of the future."

Prices are still to be announced but can be expected to be north of £200,000 when the car arrives later in 2023.
