PEUGEOT has launched its new self-charging hybrid powertrain, which will make its debut in the 3008 and 5008 models before being rolled out across other models in the Peugeot range.

The HYBRID 136 e-DSC6 powertrain uses 48V technology combined with an updated version of the 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine, as well as a new six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission, and an 898Wh battery.

The HYBRID 136 e-DSC6 powertrain results in a 15 per cent improvement in fuel economy, as well as reduced output of CO2.

The PureTech petrol engine has been fitted with a new variable geometry turbo and Miller cycle operation to extend the range of performance at low and high revs. This produces a maximum power output of 136hp and a maximum torque figure of 230Nm.

The HYBRID 136 e-DSC6 will feature a new compact electric dual-clutch transmission with six forward gears, incorporating the electric motor which offers 16kW at peak power and 51Nm of torque.

During deceleration, the engine acts as a generator to recharge the hybrid system's 48V battery and provides the main start for the combustion engine with the assistance of the belt-starter.

With a gross capacity of 898Wh and an available capacity of 432Wh, the 48V battery utilises lithium-ion technology and liquid cooling to offer maximum efficiency due to minimal heat loss and is cunningly located under the front left seat so that cabin space and luggage capacity are retained.

Peugeot vehicles featuring the HYBRID 136 e-DSC6 will also be equipped with an updated digital instrument panel that displays colour-changing accents to indicate when the vehicle is running in all-electric mode, the battery charge level and the flow of energy in the system.

The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 both feature the award-winning i-Cockpit, which provides the latest connectivity and safety technologies, including the option of night vision, autonomous emergency braking and blind spot detection which are standard from Allure Premium+ trim level upwards.

Prices for the 3008 HYBRID start at £34,130 and the 5008 HYBRID from £38,095 in entry-level Active Premium+ spcecification with the two new models topping out at £38,410 and £42,175 in GT trim.
