SINCE it was launched in 2023 the stunning Hyundai Ioniq 6 has won numerous awards, including the Scottish Car of The Year title.

It looks great and it certainly delivers in areas where many otherEVs fall down.

The Korean manufacturer calls the Ioniq 6 the electric streamliner and its unique design means it turns heads and stands out from the crowd.

As well as its striking looks the newcomer can also boast thatit has been crowned World car of the Year 2023, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year.

Buyers will be tempted by its class-leading drive range, impressive dynamics, spacious interior and the fact that it can be charged quickly.

You can select from a 228ps rear-wheel drive version or a more powerful 325ps all-wheel drive model which offers sporting performance with 62mph being reached in just 5-1 seconds.

I sampled the 228ps car which tackles the sprint in 7.4 seconds and has a top speed of 115mph.

This Premium model cost £47,705 but prices start at £46,475 and it offers space that you would not normally expect in a coupe stylecar.

The large 77.4kWh battery is good for a range of more than 330 miles and so range anxiety should not be a problem for most owners.

Inside the cabin is clutter free and modern with room for five to travel in real comfort with lots of legroom front and rear thanks in part to the flat floor.

It is all very hi-tech and there is a pair of 12.3-inch screens incorporated in a long horizontal panel in front of the driver and front passenger.

Driving functions and the infotainment features, which include a BOSE sound system, are easily operated and the cabin is finished in quality materials - many of which are recycled or from renewable plant resources.

Storage space inside the cabin is generous and the car also has a decent 401-litre boot with another small storage area beneath the bonnet.

The Ioniq 6 has stacks of kit including 20-inch alloy wheels, full connectivity, satnav, privacy glass, electric heated seats, rear spoiler, paddle shifts for regenerative braking, alloy pedals, a heated leather steering wheel and much more.

Thankfully the Ioniq 6 drives as good as it looks. It is very agile and sure footed and the lively performance will be enough for most owners. The steering is accurate with lots of feedback and the car's dynamics adjust well to a variety of road conditions.

It is very quiet in town and at motorwayspeeds and the car's low drag coefficient of 0.21 contributes to its healthy range.

A rapid charger will take just 20 minutes to get the battery to 80 per cent or just over seven hours from a home wallbox.

All the latest driver aids and safety features are included to keep driver and passengers safe and you can even adjust the interior lighting to keep you relaxed.

The battery has an 8-year/100,000 mile warranty and there is a five year unlimited mileage warranty with Hyundai Roadside Assistance included.
