RENAULT'S new compact SUV will be called the Symbioz, the company has announced.

Due to be revealed in the spring of 2024, Renault says the name is from the French word symbiose which is derived from the ancient Greek symbiosis meaning living together.

The new car is 4.41 metres long and will sit below the Captur in Renault's current line up.

It will be powered by an E-Tech full hybrid 145hp engine and the Symbioz weighs under 1,500kg which aids fuel consumption.

Sylvia Dos Santos, head of naming strategy for the Renault marketing division, said: "For this new compact family car, we wanted a name with human significance, expressing the close bond between a family and their car. The name Symbioz perfectly illustrates life with our vehicle, a place where passengers are as one with their vehicle and the environment."

Details are scant at the moment but Renault has said the Symbioz will feature a Solarbay panoramic glass roof, which turns opaque at the flick of a switch.

Renault says the Symbioz will join its existing hybrid offerings, which include the recently-launched Austral E-Tech and the Arkana E-Tech full hybrids.
