DETAILS of the new MG3 supermini have been revealed and the car will be launched with a hybrid powertrain.

The car was revealed at the Geneva motor show where MG also showed off its new Cyberster electric roadster.

MG claims that with a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of eight seconds the new MG3 is the fastest compact hybrid hatchback available.

Maximum speed is said to be 106mph and its official fuel return is rated at 64mpg with emissions of 100g/km.

The car has a 1.5-litre petrol engine and it is the first non-plug-in hybrid system fitted to an MG model. Total power output is 192bhp.

David Allison, MG Motor UK head of product and planning, said: "With all the attributes to become a leader in its class, the all-new MG3 will offer customers a combination of efficiency and performance with MG's exciting Hybrid+powertrain.

"More refined, yet also bringing MG's fun-to-drive philosophy to the market, the MG3 is excellently equipped, both with premium interior features and MG Pilot safety systems."

The MG3 is fitted with a three-speed automatic transmission and overall it is 4.113 metres long, 1.797 metres wide and has a 2.57 metre wheelbase - longer and wider than its predecessor.

Boot space is 293 litres which is about par for the course among superminis and bigger than the previous MG3.

The MG3 will be offered in two specifications for UK customers - SE and Trophy and both have a new cockpit design that features two screens - a seven-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.25 infotainment screen.

Sat nav is standard as is smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Other equipment highlights include air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connection, four USB ports, and rear parking sensors and camera.

The Trophy version adds leather-style upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera.

The MG3 is also fitted with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems delivered through the MG Pilot technology, which includes lane keep assist with lane departure warning system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and traffic jam assist.

UK pricing is due to be announced in March and is expected to start from between £18,000 and £20,000.
