THE new Vauxhall Frontera will be available as a five or seven-seat SUV with either an all-electric or hybrid powertrain.

The Frontera Hybrid has a 100hp 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which operates in combination with a 28hp electric motor and an electrified six-speed dual clutch transmission.

It will also be available with a 136hp 1.2 turbo engine while the Frontera Electric features a 113hp electric motor with a range of more than 186 miles. A long range version will be able to travel up to around 248 miles without stopping to charge.

Measuring 4.38 metres in length the Frontera sits between the Mokka and the new Grandland in Vauxhall's SUV line-up.

The Pure Panel cockpit features a newly designed steering wheel and two 10-inch widescreens, as well as physical buttons for key functions while standard practical features include wireless smartphone connectivity.

There are also two USB ports available in the front and a further two USB ports in the second row while rear passengers can make use of smartphone pockets in the front seat backrests, while larger devices that would normally not fit into the cabin properly, such as tablets, can be stored in the centre console thanks to a flexible strap that holds them in place.

More than 450 litres of luggage can be stored in the boot and with the seats folded down this extends to 1,600 litres. Additional versatility is provided by 60:40 split rear seats and split boot floor.

The trim line-up will mirror the current Vauxhall range with Design, GS and Ultimate versions.

Full UK pricing and specification will be announced at a later date.

With the arrival of Frontera Electric and the Grandland Electric, Vauxhall will offer a fully electric version of every car and van model by the end of this year.

James Taylor, managing girector of Vauxhall, said: "The new Frontera is our new family-size SUV, offering customers innovative and practical electric mobility at an affordable price. Highly flexible with up to seven seats, spacious, and with a choice of hybrid and electric powertrains, we're confident that Frontera will appeal to new and existing audiences as well as sit very well in our revised SUV line-up in between Mokka and the forthcoming all-new Grandland."
