BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of electric vehicles, has strengthened its commitment to its customers in Europe by extending the warranty of its cars' Blade Batteries to eight years or 156,250 miles - and making the switch applicable to existing cars as well as new purchases.

Blade Battery technology is at the heart of all BYD's New Energy Vehicles - pure-electric and Super Hybrid.

These cars already feature a basic-coverage warranty of six years or 93,750 miles, along with a 12-year, unlimited-mileage anti-perforation warranty and cover for the electric drive unit of eight years or 93,750 miles.

Now BYD has increased the mileage limit on the specific warranty for the Blade Battery to 156,250 miles, while retaining the existing duration of cover at eight years and a guaranteed minimum state of health of 70 per cent.

This mileage increase is designed to further strengthen user confidence in New Energy Vehicles - and it will apply to not only new cars but also all existing BYD models. So existing European owners with a BYD EV or Super Hybrid will automatically benefit from the expanded coverage.

Designed to overcome the limits of traditional batteries through a revolutionary structure, the Blade Battery combines an innovative design, high-strength materials and advanced energy-management systems.

The Blade Battery is made using lithium iron phosphate chemistry, a technology that offers greater safety, durability and sustainability, while eliminating reliance on valuable materials such as nickel and cobalt and reducing environmental impact.

After intensive load and endurance testing, the Blade Battery has been proven to exceed 3,000 charge and discharge cycles, with a service life equivalent to 1.2 million kilometres.

It has delivered outstanding results in extreme safety evaluations, such as the nail-penetration test, during which the surface temperature remains below 60°C - 10 times lower than that of a conventional battery.

It has also demonstrated exceptional resistance in overcharge tests of up to 260 per cent and oven tests at temperatures above 300°C, as well as in crushing tests, saltwater-immersion tests and drop tests from significant heights, far exceeding international safety standards.

The blade-shaped design allows each cell to function as a transverse structural element, increasing overall torsional rigidity and providing exceptional protection against impacts and deformation.

Each compact and lightweight cell is integrated into a module that reduces occupied volume by half compared with traditional batteries, enabling designers to maximise interior space and optimise vehicle packaging.

Thanks to these innovations, the Blade Battery sets a new standard in safety, reliability and performance, delivering significant driving ranges - such as 350 miles in the combined cycle for the BYD Seal Design - or high charging speeds, such as those of the BYD Sealion 7 Excellence AWD, which has a maximum DC charging power of 230 kW and can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.
