Vauxhall Adam Rocks concept

VAUXHALL'S stylish new supermini the Adam is still a few weeks away from launch, but the brand is already looking to expand the trendsetting car's horizons.

Among a quartet of models set to take centre stage at next month's Geneva Motor Show is a concept called Adam Rocks - an urban mini-crossover Vauxhall believes could open a whole new area of the industry.

Compared with the production Adam, the Rocks version is taller, wider, tougher yet more compact in appearance, and offers a cabrio roof too.

And it showcases how Adam's personalisation, with more than one million different spec and trim combinations - could be taken a step further.

A second Adam concept will also feature in the shape of a Rally Cup variant marking Vauxhall's sister company Opel's official return to motorsport.

It is powered by a 1.6-litre 16-valve engine with variable camshaft phasing producing 185PS and maximum torque of about 190Nm in its competitive configuration.

Also on display will be Vauxhall's new full-size, four-seat convertible the Cascada, which makes its first public appearance in Geneva before hitting UK streets in April.

With the Audi A5 Cabriolet firmly in its sights, the Cascada will cost from £23,995 and comes in two trims, with the entry level SE getting 18-inch alloy wheels, a sports chassis, LED tail lamps and aux-in/USB, as standard.

Its engine line-up includes a 1.4-litre Turbo petrol, a 2.0-litre diesel and an all-new 1.6 SIDI Turbo ECOTEC petrol engine.

Staying on the powertrain theme, Vauxhall will be showing off the new generation 1.6 CDTi Start/Stop diesel engine, the first to be announced in a new family of four cylinder diesel units. It will appear first in the Zafira Tourer MPV.

The powertrain is the brand's cleanest diesel engine ever and delivers 136PS along with fuel efficiency of 68.9mpg combined and 109g/km of CO2.
