NISSAN is hoping fans of its compact hatchback the Pulsar will be star-struck by the arrival of a powerful new engine.The Japanese manufacturer aims to give the Pulsar a more sporty edge with the new range-topping DIG-T 190bhp unit.It has been developed alongside a range of styling, suspension and chassis upgrades and is available in three trim grades.Nissan says the 1.6 DIG-T engine has the firepower to match larger powerplants while its fuel consumption and emissions are that of a much smaller unit.Despite being able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds it can nonetheless return a Combined 49.5mpg and has CO2 emissions from 134g/km.The Pulsar's upgrades include a new power steering set-up that has been fine-tuned to give more direct feedback and quicker responses.And front spring and damper settings have also been revised with increased stiffness and spring length to improve body control and maintain ride comfort.The bodyshell itself has been stiffened while new rear dampers and wider 18-inch wheels complete the dynamic package.Available in Acenta, n-tec and Tekna trim grades, all DIG-T 190 models feature bespoke alloy wheels finished in diamond cut two-tone black and silver, a sportier headlamp design and chrome exhaust.Inside, there's a unique trim finish across the width of the dashboard, plus white stitching on the three-spoke steering wheel and leather seats.Prices are from £19,645.
