ELECTRIC vehicle giant BYD has received a top award for its ground-breaking Blade Battery system used in its current models.
The award is from EV experts at Electrifying.com and marks BYD's expertise in cutting-edge technology and sustainable solutions.
The Blade Battery sets new standards for safety, performance, and longevity which focuses on enhancing the safety of electric vehicles.
The BYD Blade Battery's revolutionary design incorporates a blade-like structure, which not only improves thermal management but also significantly reduces the risk of combustion and other safety hazards associated with traditional EV batteries.
The battery is ultra-safe with a ‘honeycomb-like aluminium' structure for durability and its longer, flatter design improves the space utilisation of the battery pack.
It also gives electric vehicles with an extended driving range on a single charge and has demonstrated exceptional durability, outperforming conventional batteries in extensive testing.
The battery is used on all three of BYD's models - the Atto 3 SUV, the compact Dolphin hatchback and the new performance-oriented Seal upmarket crossover - the Chinese company currently sells in the UK.
Ginny Buckley, founder and CEO of Electrifying.com said: "As the electric experts we know that battery technology is developing at a dizzying pace, but with an increased focus on safety and sustainability over the long term BYD Blade Battery technology offers something genuinely new that pushes boundaries and will give confidence to car buyers looking to make the switch to an electric car. It's a worthy winner of Electrifying.com's Innovation of the Year award for 2024."
The BYD Blade Battery is manufactured using environmentally friendly materials and processes which the company says aligns with its broader vision of ‘Cooling the earth by one degree'.
