A FRESH look is on the way for the large Vauxhall Movano van with a new model due on sale before the end of 2023.

With a load capacity of up to 17 cubic metres and a payload of two tonnes the new model comes with a range of driver assistance features including for the first time level two automated driving.

There's also a range of power options made up of hydrogen, battery electric and diesel engines and Vauxhall intends the new Movano to be a top player in terms of fuel efficiency and low emissions.

The Movano Hydrogen is aimed at users who need to travel long distances and need to refuel quickly.

The fuel cell vehicle will offer a range of up to 311 miles and can be refuelled with hydrogen in only around five minutes. Orders for the Hydrogen versions will open later next year, with first deliveries expected in early 2025.

The Movano Electric meanwhile has its power raised to 220ps from the 122ps of the current versions and comes with a larger battery that gives a full charge range of up to 261 miles - 105 miles more than the current electric van.

With three driving modes and variable levels of brake energy recuperation the Movano Electric is equipped as standard with a three-phase 11 kW onboard charger for AC charging. It is also the first Vauxhall to offer the option of charging with up to 150 kW DC.

At a public fast charging station, it takes 55 minutes to recharge to 80 per cent of the battery capacity.

Additional practicality is provided by a new, optional 230V socket which can run electric devices such as laptops, electric tool batteries, tablets and other low power appliances that require electricity up to 150 Watts. The power socket is positioned on the dashboard in a central place and is easily accessible for front seat occupants.

A redesigned cabin includes a colour touchscreen of up to 10 inches as well as a wireless phone charger and keyless entry and start. An optional bench seat can also be used as a work surface.

The new Movano has an updated design at the front and rear and LED headlights are now an option.

Diesel versions offer outputs from 140 to 180ps and depending on the type can be combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

A total of 22assistance systems and electronic aids are fitted to make driving and manoeuvring easier and the combination of adaptive cruise control with "a Stop & Go" function, lane keep assist and traffic jam assist enables the Movano to steer, brake and accelerate itself at speeds up to 18mph provided that the driver's hands remain on the steering wheel.

This means that automated driving at level two is possible with the new Movano for the first time.

Three vehicle lengths, two wheelbases and three heights, as well as panel van, chassis Doublecab, platform and back to back versions are included in the new line up with the Movano Electric able to carry a payload of up to 1,385kg, and the diesel version up to twotonnes.

Prices for the new Movano at £32,025 while the Movano Electric cost from £50,385 - a saving of £12,350 compared to the outgoing model. All prices are excluding VAT.
